Allison Weiss

Allison Weiss is an energetic 24-year-old with an electric guitar, an avid online following, and a whole lot of feelings. With her quirky charm and sharp pop sensibilities, her three-minute pop/rock songs make losing sound a little more fun.

“I’m all about catchy, upbeat, feel-good music, but the one thing I always write about is heartbreak,” she admitted to Billboard.com, “I say [my songs] sound like your saddest memories sung to the tune of your happiest.”

Weiss first picked up a guitar at age 14 in an attempt to become a punk rock star and impress her high school crush. Though the plan was somewhat successful, the teenage romance died after one short month. Her love for music lived on.

After moving to Athens, GA in 2005, she spent the next five years in and out of various pseudo-relationships which fueled the fire for one infectious song after another. She toured the southeast relentlessly with friends like Jenny Owen Youngs, Bess Rogers, Lelia Broussard, and more. She worked hard and wrote constantly, self-releasing four EPs and a full length album by the end of 2009.

Allison Weiss …Was Right All Along was recorded in a tiny apartment in the summer of 2008, fully fan-funded through Kickstarter.com a mere three weeks after the now-popular website was launched. After reaching her goal in less than 10 hours and tripling it over two months, she became a sort of poster-child for Kickstarter and paved the way for a future of tech-savvy DIY music-makers.

Over time, Weiss quietly built up a dedicated internet fanbase through her love for social networking, all while simultaneously acting as artist, manager, booking agent, and college student. She gained recognition throughout the music community worldwide for her innovative grassroots marketing techniques. In 2010 she spoke on a panel at SXSW about crowdfunding, and has been interviewed in The New York Times, Wired Magazine, and various other publications about her efforts.

Now performing with a full band, live shows are more fun than ever, showcasing her unique brand of high-energy folk-infused powerpop. Even alone with an acoustic guitar, solo shows are powerful and captivating. With a knack for witty on-stage banter, she keeps her audience wanting more as she weaves hilarously awkward and endearing personal stories of love and loss between every upbeat breakup song.

Last August she packed her life into a 14ft moving truck and drove to Brooklyn for good. Already voted Artist of The Month in February by The Deli NYC, Weiss is now halfway done with a brand new full-length, produced by friend and bassist Chris Kuffner. Her last record …Was Right All Along is set for re-release on vinyl by the Pennsylvania DIY label Either/Or, and she plans to spend 2011 recording and touring and never looking back.
