Dan Stevens
"There's this Jesuit priest named Anthony de Mello who once said that the shortest distance between a human being and Truth is a story. Ol’ Tony may have something there, because right here on this record, you're going to find at least some of that Truth, courtesy of a tie-dyed in the wool songwriter named Dan Stevens." Curtis Lynch, Summer 2010
Dan began his musical career in the 60's with his first band, The Rats. Due to issues with curfews, bedtimes and a lack of transportation, he put his career on hold until the early 70's, when he left Beloit College and traveled to Guam. There, he joined Bamboo, a horn band which played island nightclubs and concerts. Over the years, he's been one of the founding members of a number of rock n' roll/blues bands: Apathy, Cottonmouth, Windfall Prophet, Groove Moon and others. He's played across the New England states, in Texas and Colorado (Boulder,Telluride, and Colorado Springs), and, of course, South and Central Florida.
Dan is currently embarking on a solo career as a singer-songwriter; after 30 years playing rock music, he realized that most of the songs he's written have been Americana or Country tunes. Not being one to ignore the facts, he's acknowledged this new direction with his recent efforts. He's won an honorable mention in the annual Billboard Song contest and has recently released his first professional album, Rearview Mirrors.
Rearview Mirrors was produced by Lis and Lon Williamson, of Gatorbone Studio. Lis and Lon have engineered and played on the cd, as well as contributing a heart that comes only with producers who truly care about the music. It blends the rousing dance-ability of western swing with the gentler side of country/folk ballads, the foot tapping fun of country, and the stories of Americana, with a little extra Cajun two-step thrown in.
On the new cd, Dan has recorded twelve of his top shelf songs, backed by many amazing musicians, including Gabe Valla, Lis Williamson, Lon Williamson, Jason Thomas, Scott Anderson, Wally Murphy, Will Barrow, Steve Shanholtzer, Rick Kuncicky, Walker Williamson, Dave Cook, and Dave Johnson.
Dan lives in Gulfport, Florida, in his house down by the sea, with his wife Juju.
