Betty Fox Friday Night! - Sunny Jim Saturday! New Thursday series begins in April
|Howdy folks.... we're getting ready for a big weekend with the lovely and immensely talented singer, Betty Fox and her band, Dirty Bastards. Followed by and closing out the weekend Saturday, we welcome for the first time, Sunny Jim. A fully loaded weekend awaits.
In the year since her surprise appearance at the 2011 Tropical Heatwave, Betty Fox has managed to blow the roof off every important venue throughout Tampa and St. Pete. Now, she and her Dirty Bastards are poised to release their first CD, "Too Far Gone" which will feature original cuts like "Down", a thorough homage to Muddy Waters, and "Goodbye", a salsa-tinged chart that fuses everything from J. Buffet to Ada Brown. But soul is what it’s all about. In fact, first timers to a Fox show are often blissfully oblivious to whether the Dirty Bastards are belting out an accurate cover or one of their own charts. Fox and her boys roll forward, still appreciative and un-phased, confident in their chops. And over the Bastards’ solid, salty backbeats, between Josh Nelms’ articulate, even dogmatic guitar solos, Ms. Fox’s vocals have evolved to octaves that inspire. She has graduated from the churches of South Tampa and has become something more than a self-described 'chanteuse'--a humble moniker and certainly less than what any true critic would ascribe to her.
Betty sang here with Damon Fowler a few months ago and blew the doors down... don't miss her! $10. Doors at 6pm. Showtime at 8pm.
Saturday we welcome back to the stage, Sunny Jim. We had the pleasure of hearing Jim on one of our weekly writers nights and let me tell you... you're in for a special night. A fantastic finger picking guitar player with a hell of a voice to boot... fantastic songs and stories.
He is a regular on Jimmy Buffett’s Radio Margaritaville, broadcasted on Sirius Satellite radio. Sunny Jim’s relationship with Radio Margaritaville began in 1997 when Radio Margaritaville broadcasted his show live via the internet from the Hyatt Regency Grand Cayman on Seven Mile Beach.
For the past ten years, Sunny Jim has been an invited performer for "Meeting of the Minds," the annual national Parrot Head Convention held in Key West, FL. He has also hosted fellow tropical troubadors at his yearly Sunday Songwriter's Showcase at Blue Heaven, which has become a "must-attend" event for many wrapping up a wild weekend in Key West. Sunny Jim is also host of the annual Six String Music Festival in New Orleans.
Join us Saturday and welcome Sunny Jim back to the Hideaway Cafe. $5. Doors at 6. Music at 8.
Happy Thursday all.... hope you'll make it down to The Hideaway Cafe for one of these great shows.
Please note that beginning in April we will be migrating our double dose of "Living Room Live" writers nights to Tuesday only so that we can bring you a new series of original music with special (once-a-month) hosts, Gale Trippsmith, Dean Johanessan, Matt Burke and others. Thursday's "Living Room Live" will run as scheduled through the end of March. (Keep an eye out for April's line -up). We hope all of you "weekly" Singer-Songwriters that have made this Writers' night so successful for the past three years will continue to share your music every Tuesday. Thanks folks...
