Ronny Elliott - www.ronnyelliott.com
He was 48 years old in 1995 when he decided to step out on his own, gathering a group of Tampa musicians and self-recording Ronny Elliott & the Nationals, a lo-fi effort that garnered critical acclaim. Elliott has continued his recording output throughout the 2000s, gaining an international reputation in underground music circles as a special kind of insurgent country artist.
Elliott's wandering muse swings from songs about early rock history (The Twist Came from Tampa) to acerbic fare like "South by So What?" (from 1999's Ronny Elliott), which slams the revered music industry fête, to politically charged tracks like "Letter From a Birmingham Jail" (from 2001's Poisonville) to a rumination on Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen's co-dependent self-destruction ("Room 100").
Steve Connelly - www.steveconnellymusic.com
Soaring Guitars and Other Wonders.
For a man described as the “linchpin of the (Tampa) Americana scene” and “the premier guitarist in Tampa Bay for the past thirty years,” fans of Steve Connelly might expect to find a readily available body of his recorded work. In fact, a trove of Connelly’s performances—on everything from organ to mandolin to pedal steel and whatever else might be leaning against the walls of his studio—can be found ornamenting the work of dozens of the bay area’s foremost acts. Folks like Ronny Elliott, Rebekah Pulley, Ted Lukas and The Ditchflowers have benefitted from Connelly’s midas touch.
